The Rutherford House Plan

There are many reasons why Dayton and I are drawn to bungalows.  Starting out as a woodworker, Dayton’s passion for craftsmanship is one major advantage when it comes to these types of homes. But the key factor of choosing a bungalow plan is the way they make us feel.  The first word that comes to mind when we hear the word bungalow is HOME.   Dayton’s attachment to the all American style goes deeper than mine.  Not only are we raising our family in a bungalow, but Dayton was raised in one himself.

Dayton worked with master bungalow designer, Brooks Ballard at homepatterns.com, on customizing the Rutherford to get the exact look and feel we wanted.

He reworked the main floor by swapping the kitchen and dinning area and creating a “breakfast booth” bump out. This more effectively connected the living space and kitchen for that “open floorplan” feel we all love.

In the revised second floor plan, they created a 2nd master suite.  To help make house cleaning and laundry easier, a 2nd laundry room was added to the second floor.

Combining our love for history with the conveniences of modern design, the Rutherford house plan lends itself to the charm of the craftsman and the openness and efficiency of everyday living.  With the right mix of creativity and adaptability, this floor plan will be perfect for families looking to be together yet comfortably apart.  We’re excited to create this home and can’t wait to meet the family who will soon be living in it!
